5 Things That Scares Me The Most. We all have fears, don’t we? A couple of days ago I came across an article that mentioned about facing our fears to overcome it. That got me thinking, what do I fear? Should I try to conquer it just so that I won’t feel afraid anymore?

Well, maybe there are some fears that one can try to conquer it to feel braver. Bungee jumping or trying an activity like flying fox could help you conquer the fear of heights.

The 5 Things That Scares Me The Most

But what if you fear of something that you can’t conquer, let say losing a loved one? How do you overcome a fear like that?

What Are The 5 Things That Scares Me The Most?

Here is the list of the 5 things that scares me the most. Actually, there are many other things that scare me too, but here are the top 5.

1) Snakes

I have a fear of snakes (Ophidiophobia) or maybe I should say Herpetophobia because I do fear other reptiles too. But its worst with snakes, to the extreme that I feel scared even to watch a documentary or TV shows about snakes. If I did watch a TV show that has snakes in it or read an article about snakes, I would get nightmares.

I think that I won’t be able to conquer the fear of snakes. Why? Well, I live in a house that is very close to nature and there is also a river nearby. So once in a while, there is a high chance a snake can lose its way and come into the back of the house. I had quite a few close encounters with snakes so I should be brave by now right. But unfortunately no, because somehow the more I have seen it, the more my fear grows.

2) Sickness And Pain

I am scared to be ill. I am afraid that if I am ill, I will be a burden to my parents and to those around me. I am also scared to see my loved ones fall sick or in pain.

I fear physical pain more than I fear emotional pain. I feel that when I am hurt emotionally, I am strong enough to hide it from others. But it is different from physical pain. It’s harder to pretend you are ok.

I also get panicked and become full of anxiety when any of my loved ones are sick or in pain. When I see one of my loved ones being ill, I feel sick too.

3) Death

I have a fear of dying and I also fear of losing my loved ones. Being an only child, my greatest fear is “What if I die young, who is going to look after my parents.”

I am very close to my mum. I can’t imagine life without her and I wonder how she would be if I go before her. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I would suddenly wake up to check on my mum to see if she is breathing.

Don’t get me wrong, my mum is not ill. She is a healthy and active woman. But since my late grandmother passed away so suddenly without being ill, the fear of death has somehow affected me.

4) The Unknown

Sometimes I wonder, how can I feel scared of something that I don’t know. But whether I like it or not, I have fears of the unknown. Looking at the world today, the word future can be horrifying. I am scared to think what will happen in future. What would tomorrow bring? How would I be when I am old? Would I be alone? Yes, all those questions scare me.

5) Rats

It wasn’t easy picking number 5. Between frogs and rats, I guess I am more afraid of rats. They run so fast and I would definitely scream if a rat ran across me. To some, they may be small and cute, but to me they are creepy….lol

Rats can be dangerous because they carry diseases. So being afraid of rats has its plus points too. At least I would stay away from them.

The 5 Things That Scares Me The Most

Being scared of certain things it’s not unusual or abnormal. Everyone is bound to be scared of something. As long as it doesn’t affect your daily life and it doesn’t hold you back from achieving your goals and dreams.

  1. I too have a fear of death, I think we all do. I also have a fear of heights, and flying. Great post.

    1. karenmonica says:

Yes, research has shown that the fear of death is very common.

  2. Amanda @ All Day Active Life says:

Amen to snakes and rats – it gives me shivers just thinking about it! It’s taken me a while, but I’m finally a bit more okay with the unknown. As I get older I feel like I have to be more okay with it as that’s just life sometimes.

    1. karenmonica says:

I am the opposite though, because the more I grow older the more I am afraid of the unknown.

  3. Snakes done bother me but when it comes to creepy crawlys mine is wasps. I have an irrational fear of them! But my biggest fear is something bad happening to my two boys. I literally have nightmares sometimes that wake me up with my heart racing about losing them.

    1. karenmonica says:

I am sure your boys are very precious to you that is why the fear is greater.

  4. Courtney says:

Omg we pretty much fear the same things! I hate snakes so much. And death is something I hope is far far FAR in my future

    1. karenmonica says:

Glad I am not alone on this then. Yes, I hope death is far far far in my future too.

  5. Neely Moldovan says:

Yep snakes are my number one and we get them ALL THE TIME! We had a massive one in our garage once. I am still traumatized

    1. karenmonica says:

I know how you feel. Snakes are horrifying creatures.

  6. Cassandra says:

I like this post alot seeing that others are scared of things too that some may think is irrational. For me it’s bats, clowns and leprechauns. Have you seen those movies? “Shudders” people are always picking on me cause of my fears

    1. karenmonica says:

I am sorry to hear that people are picking on you just because of your fears.

  7. Melanie williams says:

I get you on some of these points. Especially the one about the unknown, this can be the scariest thing on them all xx

    1. karenmonica says:

Thank God I am not alone on this then.

  8. Bree says:

I am afraid of sickness, too. I mean, I have had some terrible pains from being sick, so I always think what if it happens again soon?

    1. karenmonica says:

Sorry to hear that Bree. I hope it doesn’t happen again.

  9. Becca Wilson says:

I am afraid of all things that you have mentioned here as well. Thanks for sharing the things that make you scared. That takes some vulnerability to let people in like that.

    1. karenmonica says:

Sharing this helps me to know that I am not alone on this. Thanks for the comment Becca 🙂

  10. I am scared of death too – mine and my loved ones. It’s a scary thing to contemplate. Snakes too – especially because there are lot of poisonous snakes near where I live.

    1. karenmonica says:

Poisonous snakes are so dangerous. Hearing it being mentioned already gives me the shivers.

  11. I hate snakes, rats, insects, heights, and needles. Actually, whenever I go to the dentist I need a shot, I have to ask the nurse to hold my hand when they give me the shot. They are like, you are almost 30 and you still need your hand held. Ahaha.

    1. karenmonica says:

I know someone that fears the needle so much that she ran away from the dentist the moment she saw the needle. So you are still brave to sit there actually 😀

  12. This will sound strange, and it’s not really something I am scared of, but I HATE being hungry. I always have snacks with me so that I don’t get hangry if something runs longer than planned and I’m running late for (say) lunch!

    1. karenmonica says:

Come to think of it, I hate being hungry too.

  13. These are pretty nasty things and I totally understand why they scare you!
I am not terribly scared of any animal in particular, or the unknown, or pain! In fact, I’ve lived with chronic pain for the past 19 years and it’s ok. What scares me the most is the thought that something bad could happen to my children, or that they could get ill, or someone could hurt them.

    1. karenmonica says:

I hope you are feeling better and not suffering any chronic pain anymore. Looks like your children has become your number one priority now. Mothers are really special women. Their children always come first. You are one such mum too 🙂

  14. The unknown can be pretty darn scary. I know that I definitely wonder about the future and the unknown and if I think about it too long I can kind of panic. It’s strange.

    1. karenmonica says:

Yes it is very strange how we can fear something we know nothing about.
